In 1960 and 1980, the United States won gold medals on both occasions. Their country hosted these two Winter Olympics.
The USSR disbanded after the Albertville Winter Olympics in 1992. This means that their dominant position in the Winter Olympics hockey game has vanished. Professional hockey players were allowed to compete in the Nagano Olympic Winter Games in 1998. The standard of hockey in the Winter Olympics was raised due to this. In 1998, women’s hockey became legal. At the Nagano Winter Olympics, women compete in hockey matches. This time, America triumphed over Canada.
